We thought you might like some notice of events we are planning over the next few months. Several of the events are still in the planning stage, however when we have finalised details we will be sure to post full details on the website and on Facebook
Site Tours
Robert is leading history tours of the site at 2pm every Friday afternoon throughout August. If you would like to come along to learn about the history of the site then you would be most welcome. You might even end up wanting to help around the site.
Tours cost £5, start at 2pm and depart from the patio outside Granite’s.
If you can’t make one of these Fridays then you can make a group booking (see our Site Tours page).
Shunting Demos
Our aim is to run shunting demonstrations every Saturday afternoon from 1:00pm until 3:30 throughout August. The shunts will include moving wagons around the sidings, running the Ruston on the narrow gauge track and demonstrating the Wickham.
Demonstrations are also scheduled for the Bank Holiday weekend.
Garden Railway
Until August 28th we hope to have the garden railway running every day. For just £1 you can spend five minutes driving Thomas, Percy or James.
Trains
September 8th
As part of the GCR’s Diesel Gala they will be running their Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) on the branch line. This “triangular” service will run from Quorn to Nunckley and Mountsorrel stations, then down to Rothley before returning to Quorn. This will be a similar service to the one run back in July. Details will be available on the GCR’s website.
October 20th & 21st
The GCR hope to run a DMU shuttle service on the branch line over the weekend of October 20th & 21st. This will be a shuttle service, starting from Nunckley Hill, stopping at Mountsorrel before running down to Swithland siding. It will then return to Nunckley. The train will not join the GCR’s main line. Again further details will be posted on our website and tickets will be available from the GCR nearer the time.
Steam Toy Event: September 22nd
This is shaping up to be a fantastic event. We hope to have many steam powered toys, slot car racing, miniature traction engines, all the way through to a quarter size traction engine, and other engineering marvels on display under cover in the railway museum.
This is a free event made possible by a group of steam toy enthusiasts that are coming along to support us. Donations for this event will go towards our restoration projects.
