We are a little early this month so that we can bring you news of events taking place over the Bank Holiday Weekend.
“G” Gauge: The Garden Railway
Thomas on the Garden Railway
The Garden Railway has been finished ahead of schedule. The inaugural running will take place over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend. Our own Thomas the tank engine (above, kindly donated by Bachmann Model Railways) will be taking part, as well as several guest engines brought along by the volunteers.
If you wish to try your hand at “driving” one of the locos then, for this Bank Holiday Weekend, a five minute session will cost you just £1.
If you have a “G” gauge loco you would like to run on our track then please get in touch to arrange a suitable time.
The Waffle Shack, adjacent to the Garden Railway, will also be open over the Bank Holiday selling freshly baked Belgian Waffles
Narrow Gauge
Our LBT series narrow gauge Ruston engine is currently being refurbished ready for demonstrations in the summer.
Standard Gauge
Work on refurbishing the “Mountsorrel Granite Company” Wagons is progressing well. When our three wagons are complete we will then refurbish the large open wagon currently residing in our railway museum; this will be painted in the Snibston Colliery livery.
A date for your diary. The GCR have also announced that trains will next operate on the Mountsorrel Branch Line on the 22nd and 23rd July.
Swithland Signalling Upgrade Appeal
The Crowdfunding appeal https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/mountsorreltrains has just a week left to run. It can also be reached via our website at http://heritage-centre.co.uk/donate/ where you can also find donation and gift aid forms.
Malcolm has asked me to point out that the vast majority of the donations received have NOT come via the crowd-funding webpage, so do not be put off by the relatively small amount shown there. In reality we are very nearly there and just need one last push to achieve our funding target. We hope to be able to announce the outcome towards the end of June.
