We now have a date for the official opening of the Mountsorrel Railway Line.
The Opening ceremony will take place around 11:15-11:30 on the 24th October with the first train of the day reserved for VIPs. A further five public trains will be available on the Saturday and ten trains on Sunday the 25th. Each public train will be able to accommodate around 60 passengers (a Suburban brake compartment coach alongside a small saloon).
Public trains will leave Mountsorrel Station at:-
- Saturday: 12:30, 13:10, 13:50, 14:30, 15:10
- Sunday: 09:30, 10:10, 10:50, 11:30, 12:30, 13:10, 13:50, 14:30, 15:10, 15:45
Tickets are £5 for adults, £3 for children (aged 2 to 15 inclusive). There are no other concessions, GCR Working Friends free travel privileges are suspended for the opening weekend.
Advance booking is advisable to avoid disappointment and tickets can be purchased on-line at . Tickets are not available from any of the main GCR booking offices at Loughborough, Quorn, Rothley or Leicester. Tickets may be purchased on the day via a ticket inspector (cash only), however, since capacity is limited, priority will be given to pre-booked tickets.
This is the only weekend that public trains will run in 2015.
So please make a note in your diary and come along on the 24th or 25th and help make the opening a success. Your support on the day will help to shape how often the Mountsorrel Railway will run next year.
