Community Support
The ‘rule of thumb’ cost of building a new railway is in the order of 1 million pounds per mile!
To clear and then reinstate the 1.2 miles of track on the Mountsorrel branch has, however, cost just £100,000. The savings achieved have been possible mainly through the many tens of thousands of hours of volunteer labour that has been given over a seven year period.
In addition, however, the project has received an enormous variety of assistance from corporate bodies and other charities. This help has come in the form of cash donations, sponsorships, Free of Charge materials and services or donated labour.
Thank you all.
