Alongside the Peace Garden you will find our main formal garden area. This consists of the Botanical Garden, the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Garden and the King Charles III Coronation Garden.
As you make your way down the sloping path to the lower part of the site, you’ll find our Butterfly Garden. This garden is situated around a circular path that contains both wild flowering and formal planting areas, all designed to attract butterflies. In the summer months you’ll find a wide range of butterfly varieties, not just the common types.
The gardens have been carefully designed to provide colour all year round, as certain flowers go over, others bloom to take their place. New plants are constantly being added to expand the gardens. We have our own little nursery where we grow plants both for our formal gardens, and to sell to visitors on our plant sales tables on the patio outside Granite’s Coffee Shop. All of money we raise from plant sales goes towards expanding and enhancing our beautiful gardens.
We need additional volunteers to help maintain and develop the Heritage Centre gardens. If you have a keen interest in gardening and can spare a few hours each, please take a look at our volunteering opportunities page. We are always happy to welcome new volunteers!
