Discovery Project: Lottery Funding Application

Sadly our application for £800,000 funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for our Discovery Project has been unsuccessful.

Recent changes at HLF have seen a significant reduction in the maximum amount they award to projects, and there has been a shift in emphasis towards projects that conserve and protect historic buildings and away from new build projects like ours.

Although very disappointing, this outcome is not unexpected. We have already started exploring other potential sources of funding.

Since the project to restore the Mountsorrel Railway and create the heritage centre started 11 years ago we have had literally hundreds of set backs just like this. We could have easily walked away at any one of these and not achieved anything at all. This is by no means the end of the road for the Discovery Project. As the project developed it became overwhelmingly clear that the benefit it will bring, especially to education, is so important that the project must go ahead one way or another. We will not give up and we will continue to seek out other routes for funding.

We would like to thank Leicester, Loughborough and De Montfort Universities, local schools, companies, organisations, individuals and our volunteers who have worked with us to develop the project.
