Railway Museum Extension

Museum Banner

We are thrilled to have obtained planning permission for our Railway Museum extension.

The extension will add a third bay on the west side of the building and include a third siding plus two rooms at the rear, a ground floor and upstairs room. This will take the floor space from 300m² to around 510m²!

The existing western wall remains so that the current museum area is separated from the new section. This gives us a dedicated space for restoration projects whilst the existing museum space will be solely for exhibits. Keeping the restoration dust away from the display space will allow us to attract further high profile exhibits.

Now to why we need to get the news out as soon as possible. The project cost is £50,000, however we have already secured some funding leaving us £36,000 to find. We have a guaranteed offer to match all donations made this year up to £18,000. Matched funding means that for every £1 donated it will be matched with a further £1. We want to make the most of this very generous offer so we need your help to raise the remaining £18,000 this year

Any amount large or small is greatly appreciated. Remember, every pound you donate will be matched so your £1 will be worth £2 towards our target. If you are a UK tax payer then please consider gift-aiding your donation so that every £1 will, with matched funding, equate to £2.50!

If you would like to donate by cheque then we have a Donation Form which includes a Gift Aid Declaration for you to complete. Please send cheques made payable to “DCRT” (The David Clarke Railway Trust) to 240 Swithland Lane, Rothley, Leicestershire. LE7 7UE (Please write ‘Museum Building Extension’ on the reverse of cheques).

If you have any queries or you would like to donate on-line then contact us via donate@heritage-centre.co.uk.
